So, the album artwork image has started popping up about the place.
I’d wanted a bit more of a fanfare than that…here is that fanfare…
The image was designed by the late John Gorham. I was first made aware of John’s work (accidentally) through a tourist information poster he designed for ‘The English Riviera’ tourist board. When I first arrived in Devon the design was still very much in use and did the (quite difficult job) of making the Devon coastline seem like the holiday destination. It is with the kind permission of John’s wife that we have been allowed to use the image.
I’m no graphic design historian, so if you would like a bit more of a inside scoop on John’s career then I suggest following this link

I am sure you will agree that it is a lovely image.

I falled in love to your new album! Already I am looking forward to the concert in Prague’s Lucerna. See ya there!
I grew up in Devon and this takes me back to my childhood. Whether you were on the English Rivera or not you could not escape this image – it was everywhere. It reminds me of home.
I love the album artwork. Does anyone know where I can buy a poster of the album cover? Thanks! Em
I’ve lived in torquay most of my life .your right it is a great image matching a great album
I come from ‘the Bay’ Torquay and to this day always seem to see this image. I love that this band has made Torquay seem so glamours but also I do genuinely love this album (and album art) of theirs!
I was a kid growing up in Torbay ( the English Riviera ) in the 80′s and this artwork was everywhere. The bay was already on its way down as a destination resort, and was past its best, but there was a great music scene there. The cool thing about Metronomy for me is that their sound does reflect the area. You really had to stand out from the crowd, and do your own thing. Really cool bands and artists used to play at the 400 club on Torquay harbour. I saw Orange Juice , Pete Shelley, Buzzcocks lead singer gone solo electro pop ) , Hipsway ( a bit maudling even then ) Bow Wow Wow, and loads of other bands there. There was also a cool Indie record shop ‘Sounds’ where all the experimental stuff was always 50p in the 12 inch section. I would be into all these left field bands like Talking Heads ( they were then ) , King Crimson, Kraftwerk, Devo, BEF ( Half Human league and Heaven 17 ) DAF, and all sorts of stuff, and it felt quite special to be so remote but have your own thing. We used to customise all our vintage clothing bought at Jumble sales ( there were so many pensioners in Torbay, you could get the most amazing finds ) I feel very proud that a band like Metronomy have their roots there, and love that they are proud to show it. Who would have thought South Devon would have produced such great bands. I was in Paris with my daughter recently, vintage clothing shopping ( her ) and I kept hearing the album in different stores. That was very cool. A
Wow, such a great image. Sums it up perfectly. Minimalistic and yet so appealing…
Keep up the great work!
The artwork reminds me of holidays when I was a kid, I haven’t been back since I left uni, I wonder how much it’s changed! Love the album btw.
Love the artwork. Totally remembered it from going to Devon on holiday as a child in the 80s. I remember being so excited thinking that it would be just like Spain…….
